Inspiring Future Aviators through STEM Education
Northampton Airport Wright Flight is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based at Northampton Airport in Northampton, MA. Our mission is to connect students with the exciting world of aviation through hands-on STEM education—and to inspire the next generation of pilots, engineers, and aerospace professionals.
What Is Wright Flight?
NAWF is a 10-week after-school program designed to introduce middle and high school students to the field of aviation while reinforcing critical Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math (STEM) skills. It supports the educational goals of local schools and shows students the powerful link between learning and career opportunities.
Each week, students dive into a new aspect of aviation:
• History of flight
• Flight controls and simulators
• Communication and air traffic control
• Navigation and weather
• Careers in aviation and aerospace
Classes are led by a dynamic team of volunteer instructors, including licensed pilots, flight instructors, a surgeon, an attorney, engineering students, and more.
Students also enjoy unforgettable field trips to:
• The New England Air Museum
• Gulfstream Aerospace
• Barnes Air National Guard Base
The highlight of the program is Flight Day, when students take to the skies for their first flight lesson—guided one-on-one by a certified flight instructor. It’s the moment where everything clicks: confidence, excitement, and the realization that they belong in this world.
Wright Flight actively seeks to engage female students and students of color, helping diversify the future of aviation by creating opportunity and building belonging.
