7B2 celebrated Women in Aviation during our second annual Fly it Forward event on Saturday, March 8. Among the day’s activities were free flights provided to women and girls, static displays, visits with female pilots and the opportunity to take advantage of the Mass DOT booth and their flight simulator stations.
Aviation organization, Women of Aviation Worlwide, also hosted events around the globe during Women in Aviation week, an annual week-long celebration to honor the past, present and future accomplishments of women in aviation-related careers. During the week, events were held in countries around the world! Last year our own Hillary Carl achieved 4th place in the Most Female Friendly Pilot Award for flying 48 ladies over 2 days!
During this year’s event 118 ladies from as far away as the Bronx and Vermont came out to get their first flights! The youngest passenger of the day was 4 and the “most senior” was 84! Our fantastic volunteer pilots were George Danziger, Greg Trzaska, Dan Bergeron, Bob Beede, Hillary Carl, Vinnie Melling, Dave Strassburg, Harmen Vandervelden, David Bloomberg and Joe Ochiuzzio. Our ground volunteers registered, visited with, share stories, offered advice and enjoyed the company of all the excited girls and women who came out. Thanks to Chris and Rich MacIsaac, Steve Cote , both Patricia’s, Holly, Mary Shea, Marilyn Pearson, Angela Greco, Emily Swiatek, and Drew Latour. Bruegger’s Bagels of Main Street, Northampton donated their delicious, fresh bagels to fuel our pilots for their day of flying! Thank you all for coming, volunteering, and supporting this terrific event!
